Frequently Asked Questions — OEM Wire Harness & Cable Assembly Manufacturing

Whether you’re evaluating Affiliated Products as a new supplier or you’re ready to request a quote, this page answers the questions OEM design engineers, purchasing managers, and operations teams ask most often. If you don’t see your question here, contact our sales team directly.

Getting Started

Can you build to our drawings and specifications?

Yes — we build to customer-supplied engineering drawings, connection sheets, bills of materials (BOMs), or physical samples. If you have a finalized design, we’ll build to it exactly. If your design is still in development, our team can collaborate with you on manufacturability and suggest improvements before production begins.

We don't have drawings yet. Can you still help us?

Yes. Many OEM manufacturers come to us with a concept, a rough sketch, or a physical sample rather than a finished drawing package. We work with your engineering team to develop the documentation needed for production. Contact us to discuss where you are in your development process.

What information do I need to request a quote?

The more detail you can provide, the faster and more accurate your quote will be. Helpful information includes: product type (wire harness, cable assembly, electromechanical assembly), application or industry, estimated annual quantity, whether drawings or samples are available, and your target delivery timeline. We’ll work with whatever you have.

Do you offer engineering collaboration and design support?

Yes. Our team regularly works with OEM engineers to review designs for manufacturability, identify potential quality or cost improvements, and develop documentation for new assemblies. We’re a manufacturing partner, not just a supplier.

Quality & Certifications

Do you manufacture to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards?

Yes. All wire harness and cable assembly manufacturing at Affiliated Products adheres to the industry standards set forth by IPC/WHMA-A-620 — the recognized benchmark for wire harness and cable assembly quality in the industry. While IPC/WHMA-A-620 is a manufacturing standard rather than a formal certification, adherence to it is a requirement for most OEM procurement teams and ensures consistent, traceable quality across every production run.

What is your ISO certification?

Affiliated Products is ISO 9001 certified. Our ISO 9001 quality management system governs every step of our manufacturing process, from incoming material verification through final inspection and shipment, ensuring consistent quality and continuous improvement across all production runs.

Are you UL and CSA approved?

Yes. Affiliated Products is both UL and CSA approved. This makes us a strong fit for OEM manufacturers selling equipment across North America who need a single manufacturing partner that meets major safety and quality standards for both the US and Canadian markets.

What does UL approved mean and why does it matter?

UL (Underwriters Laboratories) approval means our manufacturing facility and processes have been evaluated and recognized by one of the most respected independent safety certification organizations in North America. For OEM manufacturers selling equipment into the US market, working with a UL approved wire harness and cable assembly manufacturer simplifies your own product certification process and gives your procurement and compliance teams confidence that assemblies meet recognized safety standards.

What does CSA approved mean?

CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approval means our facility meets the electrical manufacturing standards required for equipment sold into the Canadian market. For OEM manufacturers selling equipment in both the US and Canada — which includes most agricultural, construction, generator, and industrial equipment makers — working with a CSA approved manufacturer means your assemblies meet the requirements of both markets without sourcing from two separate suppliers.

Do you 100% test your assemblies?

Yes. Every wire harness and cable assembly we manufacture undergoes 100% electrical continuity testing before shipment using Cirris computerized test systems. No assembly leaves our facility without passing electrical verification.

Can you meet the quality requirements of our OEM procurement team?

In most cases, yes. We’re experienced working with OEM procurement and quality teams and can provide documentation including material certifications, test records, and first article inspection reports. Contact us with your specific quality requirements and we’ll confirm our capability to meet them.

Production & Capacity

Do you support prototype quantities?

Yes. We support both prototype runs for design validation and full production volumes. Many of our customer relationships start with a prototype build and grow from there as products scale.

What is your minimum order quantity?

We don’t publish a fixed minimum — it depends on the complexity and type of assembly. We support low-volume, high-complexity builds as well as high-volume production runs. Contact us to discuss your specific volume requirements.

Can you scale production as our business grows?

Yes — and this is one of the most common reasons OEMs choose Affiliated Products. We’re set up to grow with you from prototype through full production without requiring you to requalify a new supplier as volumes increase.

What types of assemblies do you manufacture?

We manufacture custom wire harnesses, cable assemblies (including jacketed multi-conductor, battery cables, and overmolded assemblies), and electromechanical assemblies (including box builds, control panels, and dash panels). We support the full range from simple point-to-point assemblies to complex multi-branch harnesses with 50+ circuits.

Do you manufacture in the United States?

Yes — 100% of our manufacturing is performed at our facility in Mayville, Wisconsin. For OEM manufacturers who have experienced quality issues, long lead times, or supply chain disruptions with overseas suppliers, domestic manufacturing with Affiliated Products offers a straightforward solution. You get shorter lead times, direct communication with the people building your assemblies, easier logistics, simpler quality audits, and no exposure to tariffs, port delays, or international shipping variability. If reshoring your wire harness supply is a priority, we’re ready to talk.

Industries & Applications

What industries do you serve?

We manufacture wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical assemblies for OEMs in agriculture, construction, turf care, off-road vehicles, industrial equipment, data centers, HVAC, generator and power equipment, and security and monitoring systems. If your equipment requires electrical components, we can likely support it.

Do you understand our industry's specific requirements?

Yes — we’ve been manufacturing for OEMs across multiple industries since 1985. Our team understands the environmental demands, connector requirements, and quality standards specific to each industry we serve. We don’t treat every project the same — we build to what your application actually demands.

Can you handle complex assemblies for mission-critical equipment?

Yes. We regularly manufacture assemblies for mission-critical applications including power generation, data center infrastructure, and agriculture equipment where field failures are not an option. Our adherence to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards and 100% electrical testing are specifically designed to support these requirements.

Do you manufacture wire harnesses and cable assemblies for data center equipment?

Yes. We manufacture custom wire harnesses and cable assemblies for OEMs building data center infrastructure equipment — including cooling systems, HVAC units, UPS equipment, power distribution units, monitoring systems, and security systems. Data center equipment demands clean, reliable wiring with zero tolerance for field failures. Our adherence to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards and 100% electrical testing before shipment make us a strong fit for mission-critical data center OEM applications.

Do you manufacture wire harnesses for industrial and automation equipment?

Yes. We support industrial OEM manufacturers building automation systems, control panels, processing equipment, material handling systems, packaging machinery, and monitoring and measurement equipment. Industrial applications often require high-temperature rated jacketing, strain relief, abrasion resistance, and sealed connectors — all of which are standard capabilities at Affiliated Products. We build to your exact specifications and scale from prototype to full production volume.
